Friendly Reminder Regarding Junk Vehicles:

SPRING CLEAN UP!  IT IS TIME TO GET RID OF THE JUNK VEHICLES!

Do you have a vehicle that is abandoned in your yard?  Is it beyond repair?  Has it developed a hue of green from the lichen, moss, and mold.  Has it been there for five or more years?  Is it a “project” you were going to get to but too many other things popped up?

If so, it is time for the vehicle to go!  Prices for junk vehicles have never been higher and you also will benefit from alleviating all of the risks involved with storing junk vehicles.  See below.

REASONS TO REMOVE JUNK VEHICLES

JUNK CARS REDUCE YOUR PROPERTY VALUE

When you leave a junk vehicle on your property, it will accumulate dust and rust due to constant exposure to moisture. Junk vehicles that sit stationary for a long time are going to rust out faster than a vehicle in use or properly stored. Lichen, moss, and mold start growing on the surface.  Additionally, constant solar radiation will cause the paint to erode.  The vehicle becomes an eyesore. As a result, your property and the neighbors’ property value decrease due to your neglect.

JUNK VEHICLES LEAK TOXIC FLUIDS

Motor vehicles contain fluids such as engine oil, brake fluid, coolant, gasoline, and transmission fluid. Although all vehicles naturally leak fluids, idle vehicles leak more fluids. Therefore, when you leave an old vehicle on your property, the fluids leak and sink into the ground and potentially contaminate your well or your neighbor’s well. Most vehicle fluids are highly toxic to the environment. These fluids may also cause various health effects and could be fatal if you, your pets, or wildlife come into contact with them. Additionally, some fluids are highly flammable and may cause a fire accident on your property, leading to losses.

JUNK VEHICLES ARE PRONE TO INFESTATION

Rodents such as rats, mice, chipmunks, and squirrels carry all sorts of bacteria, viruses, and diseases and look for shelter in abandoned vehicles.  They make nests throughout the vehicle and tear apart the seating. Insect infestation of spiders, bees, and wasps are also dangerous to your health.

JUNK VEHICLES WASTE YOUR YARD SPACE

You will be able to utilize the space once the vehicle is removed.

YOU COULD BE VIOLATING THE LAW BY CREATING A DANGEROUS HAZARD.

The legal concept of attractive nuisance refers to a hazardous condition or object on someone’s property that may attract children or other curious individuals who cannot recognize the danger. Property owners are liable for any injuries or damages resulting from the attractive nuisance, even if the injured individuals were trespassing on your property.

A junk car in your yard can be considered an attractive nuisance because it can appeal to children who want to play on or inside it. However, a junk car is also a dangerous hazard that can cause serious injuries to anyone visiting your property: cuts, punctures, and exposure to toxic materials.
